The year 2024 marked a turning point for GESAC S.p.A., the company managing Naples and Salerno airports, with historic results that underscore its role as a strategic asset for Campania‘s economic and infrastructure development. The Board of Directors has approved the 2024 financial statement and confirmed Carlo Borgomeo as Chairman and Roberto Barbieri as Chief Executive Officer for another three-year term—an endorsement of a leadership team that has successfully balanced growth, innovation, and sustainability.

Naples International Airport recorded an all-time high of 12.7 million passengers, driven particularly by the expansion of international traffic and an increasing intercontinental profile, thanks to direct routes to the United States and enhanced connectivity with major hubs across Europe. The airport’s global connectivity, defined as the ability to reach worldwide destinations with one or no stopovers, grew by 20% compared to 2019—despite a 9% average decrease across European airports. These figures establish Naples as one of the most dynamic airport hubs on the continent.

GESAC also optimized traffic efficiency by increasing passenger numbers without increasing aircraft movements. Passenger traffic grew by 2.1% year-over-year, while takeoffs and landings remained stable. This was achieved through higher seat occupancy and the use of larger aircraft, reflecting the company’s focus on sustainable air transport. This commitment earned Naples Airport the prestigious ACA Level 5 (Airport Carbon Accreditation) in 2024—the first airport in Italy and one of only ten airport operators globally to reach this level. It certifies not only carbon neutrality for airport operations but also a measurable reduction of emissions across the wider airport ecosystem.
2024 also witnessed the historic reopening of Salerno – Costa d’Amalfi Airport on July 11, precisely on schedule. With €28 million of the total €45 million in investments allocated to the Salerno development plan, the runway was extended and flight infrastructure upgraded to support domestic and international scheduled flights, charters, and private aviation. In its first six months of operation, Salerno Airport welcomed around 180,000 passengers, affirming the strategic value of a unified Campania airport system.
GESAC ended the year with a net profit of €39.8 million, up 3% from 2023, and an EBITDA of €76.8 million, confirming both financial solidity and reinvestment capacity. A recent Nomisma study highlighted that Naples Airport contributes 4.2% to the regional GDP and supports more than 112,000 jobs—including direct, indirect, and induced employment.
“In a context of growing air traffic, expanding tourist demand, and the progressive strengthening of Salerno Airport, GESAC is now focused on shaping the future of Campania’s airport system through innovation, efficiency, and sustainability,” stated Roberto Barbieri, outlining the company’s long-term vision.
